A basketball festival giving young people in the UK a real way to play, learn, and take the game seriously.
Overview & Problem
Basketball in the UK is popular but it isn’t taken very seriously. Most people experience it casually through school or by watching the NBA/WNBA, but outside of that there are very few opportunities to actually get into the sport. Football dominates the landscape and often feels like the only real path if you want to take a sport seriously. Countries like France, Spain, and Germany have built strong basketball cultures alongside football, but in the UK there are fewer leagues, systems, and events that make the sport feel established.
Many young players want to try basketball but don’t know where to start. Most events are invite only or built for players who already compete, leaving very few spaces made for beginners. Breakout was designed as a basketball festival that gives young people in the UK a real way to play, learn, and take the game seriously.
Note: This project is actively being worked on and updated.
Strategy & Solution
Breakout is built around the idea of giving players a way in. In the UK many young athletes feel pushed toward football, so the project focuses on creating a space where basketball feels accessible. The name Breakout reflects the idea of breaking out of that system.
In basketball a breakout can refer to a fast break, a big moment, or reaching the next level, which connects the concept directly to the sport.
The identity focuses on growth and progression, with messaging that encourages players to expand their game and aim higher. The concept, strategy, copywriting, and visual system were developed together so the project communicates one clear idea.
